SPARC (Speech Pathology & Allied Rehabilitative Clinic) is a therapy centre founded by Anuja Katrak (MSc, CertMRCSLT; HCPC). The centre covers neo-natal, school age, adult and geriatric populations using areas of Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Neuro-Rehab. SPARC aims to help children and adults overcome speech, language, feeding/swallowing and related difficulties. It is a centre where passion brings progress.
So, What does a Speech Therapist/Pathologist do? The better question is....what don't they do?
The role of a Speech & Language Therapist (SLT) or Speech & Language Pathologist (SLP) is wide and varied. An SLT is responsible for evaluating, diagnosing and providing treatment for a variety of areas. Speech and language are often misconstrued to be one and the same. However, both these terms are distinct and differ in their clinical meaning and prognosis. Trouble with speech is the difficulty with the “how to” of talking – the movements necessary to produce speech. The trouble with language is the difficulty understanding what he/she hears or sees. An individual may struggle to find the right words and/or organize those words in a meaningful way for communication. Further, difficulties with eating and swallowing (referred to as Dysphagia) are also dealt with by a Speech & Language Therapist who has specialized in Dysphagia
The therapists at SPARC are trained to provide:
• Assessments and Evaluations of speech, language, communication and feeding/swallowing difficulties
• Individual Therapy
• Group Therapy
• Home and Hospital Visits
• Modified Barium Swallow Assessment (MBS)
• Liaising to work alongside doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, school teachers, special educators and other related professionals.
Our clinicians keep themselves up to date with the latest research and development throughout the globe through continuing professional development programs (conducting as well as attending courses, workshops and seminars). Our philosophy is to learn and evolve with every new case dealt with by us.
SPARC’s motto is to provide efficient, individualized patient centric therapy, with minimal stress imposed on the child, adult or accompanying family members. Their successful rehabilitation into mainstream life is viewed as our own personal challenge and duty. We welcome you to browse our website and learn more about us and the range of therapies available.
